Turoldo Park
The park, inaugurated in 2013 and enriched in the following years with a series of artistic mosaics that refer to Father Turoldo’s life and places, is located in Coderno di Sedegliano, where the Turoldo family lived. Five mosaic works can be admired inside the green area.
The artwork shows particular care in the choice of heterogeneous materials-Venetian enamels, sintered enamels, stones, castings waste-of irregular format and thickness, indicative of the compositional freedom and bold gestures that characterize contemporary mosaic, now completely freed from Byzantine influences and academic rules, permeated by total expressive freedom.
This second artwork, dedicated to four local personalities – Tiziano Tessitori, Angelo Pittana, Plinio Clabassi, Gilberto Pressacco – is created based on the design by the Slovenian artist Jože Ciuha (1924 – 2015). The stylistic language of the artist, far from realistic-imitative motifs, has been translated into a direct technique mosaic, characterized by a dynamic and unconventional texture, free from traditional execution techniques.
The subject of the third mosaic is the writer Riedo Puppo and one of his lyrics. The Sketch is once again made by painter Ciuha, whose subject seems to be somewhere between being and not being. The direct technique mosaic succeeds in returning all the lightness of this stylized figure. Enriching the composition is a text by the author in italics, in which the mosaic follows a soft and harmonious rhythm.
In the fourth artwork, of soaring vertical elegance, the figures of the Slovenian artist, reworked by his son Peter, are interspersed with the canticle blocks containing Father Turoldo’s farewell greeting. The contemporary-looking mosaic workmanship succeeds in giving the entire composition a rhythmic and at the same time uniform course thanks to the texture and color range of the background.
The fifth and final mosaic is dedicated to the Woman – Mother, whose figure has been depicted by the two Slovenian painters in all its mysterious essence. At the mosaic level, it turns out to be particularly interesting the detail of the egg made of precious Venetian gold, whose sparkling glitter manages to catch the eye and move the observer’s thoughts.
